What is Food Styling?
I am often asked what it means to be a "Food Stylist", so I created a little video to answer the question. Here I style a simple recipe for one-pan braised chicken with bok choy and carrots, but you will see many steps that you wouldn't do to cook this dish for your dinner. Vegetables and meat and sauce are all cooked separately to control what they look like, then assembled on set with tweezers and brushed with sauce. It all involves a lot of cooking knowledge, but it is not the same as cooking food to eat. Making food look delicious is definitely not the same as making delicious food.
